The Summer Retreat this year took place in Berchtesgaden, a Bavarian village near the beautiful Königssee. The main focus of our retreat was the presentation of the data obtained during the PhD theses via seminars given by the members. Based on these seminars new methods, alternative approaches and experiences were discussed. The main topics this year were: cell movement (Myosin, Kinesin), channel proteins and peroxisomal import factors, which were characterized through NMR. The retreat was also used to build up a strong network; hence a team building event (rafting on the Ache) was organized, which certainly encouraged our solidarity. Another stimulating element of our retreat was the contact with alumni. As guest speakers Dr. Stephan Jellbauer (who is on his way to become a European patent attorney) and Dr. Maria Schmid (who is working at Roche at an interface between lab and economy) were so kind to talk about their work-experiences, provided us with a unique insight into their daily work and gave us the chance to talk about work-opportunities.
