On April 14th Dr. Tobias Madl from the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research at the Utrecht University gave a talk on his work on studying challenging biological systems with NMR spectroscopy. His research focus is set on medically important targets which are difficult to address by conventional methods of structural biology. In his young career, Dr. Madl has contributed in various aspects to method development in NMR, especially, for the analysis of large complexes. For his doctoral work he was awarded the PhD Prize of the Austrian Chemical Society. In Nov 2010 he started in Utrecht where he is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher in the NMR spectroscopy research group. His extraordinary scientific success is highlighted by numerous publications in high impact journals.

Dr. Madl presented his scientific interests and latest results but also gave an overview of decisions and stations in the advancement of his career as a young and upcoming scientist. After the seminar we extended our discussions during an excellent Austrian dinner at Mariandl’s.

We thank Tobias for giving an excellent and interesting talk and for sharing professional and personal experiences with us.
