Using aggregation-prone model proteins and quantitaive proteomics she and her colleguages could show that numerous cellular proteins co-aggregate with model protein amyloids and hence are impaired in function. Their data unravel a possible mechanism accounting for toxicity observed in disorders associated with protein aggregation like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or Huntington's. Have a glance at the Cell PaperFlick where Heidi herself and the fellow authors give a brief introduction to the paper.
